Ink Shade: A Tranquil Homage to Japanese Elegance

DanZe Interior Design Crafts a Serene Residential Space

Inspired by the serene architecture of 'Aman Kyoto', DanZe Interior Design's latest project, Ink Shade, is a residence that embodies tranquility and sophistication through innovative design and color play.

The heart of Ink Shade lies in its social area, an open plan where walls have been removed to foster a sense of unrestricted space. This design choice not only maximizes natural light but also seamlessly connects the living room, dining room, and study room. The strategic use of color zoning is another distinctive feature of this residence. Contrary to the conventional approach, Ink Shade adopts a 'dark social area and bright private area' theme, aligning with the client's desire for a home that exudes the essence of a relaxing vacation.

Material selection plays a pivotal role in realizing the vision for Ink Shade. The use of slab tiles, baking paint, and stone veneer, among other materials, ensures durability while maintaining a high-quality aesthetic. The stone veneer storage space adjacent to the TV wall is a testament to this, offering not only functionality but also an echo of the residence's overarching style. The design's realization required meticulous planning, particularly for the TV wall, which integrates various materials on the same horizontal plane to achieve a harmonious visual effect.

The layout of Ink Shade is meticulously crafted to suit the client's lifestyle. The original three-room apartment was reconfigured into a more spacious social area by transforming one of the cubicles into an open-plan study room. The kitchen, initially designed as an open space, was later refined with a glass partition to contain cooking fumes, demonstrating the designer's attention to both aesthetics and functionality.

Wei-Min Huang, a key member of the design team, contributed significantly to the project's success. The client's satisfaction with the resort-style ambiance and the practicality of the storage solutions is a testament to the team's dedication to meeting the client's needs. The design's interaction with the client's daily life is seamless, with every space thoughtfully planned to enhance the living experience.

Completed in February 2023 in Taiwan, Ink Shade is a research-driven project that encapsulates the essence of a 'Japanese-style luxury hotel' and 'cozy life'. The design's dark social area and light private area, combined with the interplay of stone and wood, articulate a narrative of quality and taste. Overcoming challenges such as integrating hidden storage without compromising design integrity, the team at DanZe Interior Design has delivered a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The project's name, Ink Shade, is reflective of its design philosophy—where the absence of color in the social area emphasizes the shifting interplay of light and shadow, reminiscent of an ink-wash painting. This approach to space and color division allows for an open, yet intimate atmosphere, earning the project the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award category for 2024.
